Membership Guidelines

Businesses

  • This business is located in or has at least one location in Greater Portland.

  • If there is more than one location, the majority are located within the State of Maine. 

  • The owner or majority of owners are Maine residents and live in Greater Portland at least half the year.

  • The business is registered in Maine, with no corporate or national headquarters outside of Maine.

  • This business is privately held.

  • This business is private, worker, community or cooperative owned and not a franchise.

  • The owner(s) have full decision-making authority over the business and is not subject to conditions dictated remotely. 

Non-Profits

  • This organization must be recognized as a nonprofit by the State of Maine. 501(c)(3) status is not required.

  • This organization is in Greater Portland.

  • Board of directors, trustees, staff etc… must have full decision-making authority and not subject to conditions dictated remotely. If there is more than one location, the majority are located within the State of Maine.

Individuals must simply believe in Portland Buy Local’s mission. They do not need to be a Maine resident to join.

PBL Sponsored Posts

$75 Includes post on FB, IG and IG story

All directory members can sponsor a post on our Instagram and/or Facebook accounts. This could be announcing a new service, a public event, a big sale, a new location opening, or sharing a milestone for our organization.

Requirements: 

  • Submit at least two weeks before you want it posted

  • A current directory listing

  • Have an organizational IG or FB account to tag in the post.

  • Submit the appropriately sized image for each platform

  • Cannot be political in nature

  • Must be applicable to a broad section of our followers

  • Word count of 150 or less

  • Include hashtags #portlandbuylocal and #sponsored

  • Links can be included on FB only. For IG posts, direct people back to your account or website to learn more and we can include the link when we share the post to our story.

  • Images must be high resolution and sized to fit each platform

    • Instagram - 1080px X 1080px

    • Facebook - 1200px X 630px OR 1080px X 1080px still works
