SPECIAL Education Series Event: Uncoding the Experience Economy with Jeff Milchen

Events, Member Events, Member Updates

Portland Buy Local invites you to hear how your local business can build customer engagement and loyalty to compete successfully with chains and online mega-retailers. This is an exciting opportunity to hear directly from a national expert.

Join us Thursday, March 8th from 8:00am-9:30am to participate in this unique workshop.
Get tickets here.

ABOUT THE EVENT:

For any independent business competing against large corporations with superior purchasing power, “customer experience” is your best opportunity to excel. But what does that mean? And, for retailers, how can you close a sale when the “Amazon price” is just a phone tap away?

This workshop will track a potential customer’s journey from their first impression (seeing or learning about your business) to entering your doors to departure. We’ll explore how your business can stand out at each stage and how you can make a personal connection that keeps them coming back. Hint: engaged employees are key!

This event will also tie individual business branding to the work of Portland Buy Local, so your business and your organization are reinforcing each other’s key assets and messaging. Come ready to share stories from your experience as a business person or customer about what’s turned you from a drop-in to a loyal customer!

Richard Boyd Art Gallery opens an annual group exhibition of original paintings and drawings on Friday, March 2 at 10:00 a.m. The exhibit explores works by four artists creating art on a time honored raw product – paper. The exhibit features new work by Patricia Chandler – graphite, acrylic, and mixed media; and works by artists’ Randy Eckard – watercolor; Julianne Garvey – watercolor; and Bob Santandrea – pastels. Works on Paper is on view free of charge every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. through March 30, 2018. WMPG FAT Tuesday Cajun Cookin’ Contest

Feb 13, 2018 @ 12:00pm   Events, Member Events

WMPG will again be hosting our renowned Fat Tuesday party. This will be the 23rd year that we celebrate Mardi Gras with our volunteers, listeners, USM and the greater Portland Community. It all happens on February 13, 2018 from noon to 3pm at the USM Woodbury Campus Center in Portland.

WMPG will be broadcasting New Orleans music live from the event. There will be plenty of WMPG on-air personalities to spin tunes, and there may be some surprise musical guest showing up to perform live Acadian music in the amphitheatre.

This year’s restaurant participants include: USM Dining/Sodexo (defending their 2017 title); Bayside American Café; Abilene Portland; Gritty’s; Po Boys & Pickles; Whole Foods; Lenny’s Westbrook; and Uncle Billy’s BBQ.

Fat Tuesday Cajun Cookin’ Challenge is WMPG’s celebration of the Acadian-Cajun Connection and Maine’s special relationship with the people, music and flavors of New Orleans. Each year, this mid-winter party is a huge thank you to the people Southern Maine, and at USM, for keeping WMPG Community Radio alive and well for over 43 years.
