The Maine Comics Arts Festival, founded by Casablanca Comics, returns to Portland this May to celebrate the comic book art form. Over 100 comic writers, artists, publishers and cartoonists are expected to attend and exhibit at the third annual event on May 22 at Ocean Gateway on Portland’s waterfront.  More info: http://mainecomicsfestival.com/

May 21, 2011: Swap Maine Clothing Swap

Join Goodwill and Portland fashion bloggers for the first Annual Swap Maine Clothing Swap! May 21, 11 am to 4 pm Head Games Salon, 116 Free Street, Portland Swap attendees bring a bag of clothing, shoes, jewelry, and accessories. Using the complimentary swag bags provided by SWAP Maine, attendees leave with a slew of new-to-them goodies. For those that drop off their bag the week before, entrance is free! For those that bring their bag the day of entry is $5. If you’d like to come without a bag, entry is $10. All proceeds and leftover clothing and accessories will be donated to Goodwill. Join the talented picture frame staff at Casco Bay Frames & Gallery as they unveil their new work at the 12th Annual Employee Art Show during the month of May and June. Meet the artists at the Opening Reception on Friday, May 6th from 5-8pm or drop in during Gallery hours: Mon-Fri 10am-6pm & Sat 10am-5pm. Seven artists & co-workers celebrate a vibrant & diverse exhibit that reveals many different aspects of the local art scene.

Join Goodwill for three donation drives in Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland and North Yarmouth! Saturday, May 7, from 8 am to 2 pm. Bring gently used clothing, household goods and computers. To learn more about what you can donate, please visit www.goodwillnne.org/donate. The sale of your donations in Goodwill’s retail stores will help fund programs that help people get back to work and lead independent lives. And, by donating gently used household items and computers, you will keep them out of landfills. In addition, as a nonprofit organization, Goodwill will give you a receipt for your tax deductible donation.

Spring Show at Ember Grove – New Maine Artisans!

During the May 6 First Friday Art Walk,  will reveal renovations and the work of four new Maine artisans: Eden body care products by Elise Loschiavo; SaltyPeach handbags by Elsie Moshimer; Elizabeth Thorp pottery; and Lauren Ottis fiber work. In addition, available works of 20 Maine artists are on display.

Spring is a time for growth and change, and thanks to the Buy Local Campaign we are growing! Come see our New renovations and additions to the Gallery! Show will run through July.  Hours are Tuesday-Saturday 10-6pm or by appointment.
